P1000211I went raw in August 2009 after reading a tiny blurb in a women’s magazine about digestive enzymes. I didn’t know it was a ‘movement’ or ‘hip’ or that there were raw foodists or celebrities eating raw, or ANYthing. In fact, I didn’t think much of it other than I knew my tummy could use some ‘correcting’. So I went beyond the article’s suggestion of 60-70% raw and just jumped in nearly 100%. It was the summer and I had tons of fresh fruit and veggies and within a couple of days I felt so different. Refreshed, energetic, happy.

I went online to try to learn more and discovered a whole WORLD of raw. WOW. I slowly began trying some raw food recipes and broadened my skills – sprouting anyone? I was reluctant to do the whole green smoothy thing, at first anyway. Eventually I did try my hand at them and they have been a STAPLE ever since. I drink anywhwere from 32-64 ounces a day. They vary depending on what is on hand, but for the most part consist of:

2-3 cups of water
2 or 3 heaping handfuls of spinach
juice of a lemon and/or orange
a banana (sometimes frozen first)
a small amount of stevia or agave

Alternatley I will add strawberries, carrot, zuccinni, sprouts, pineapple, apple, pear, fresh cranberries, maca, lucama, mesquite…etc etc. The list goes on and on and on in terms of what I may or may not add. It just depends on what I have on hand and what I feel like at any given time. Green smoothies are versatile and easy and so YUMMY!
